Aurora II references the aurora borealis' curtain of light and is the second in a series of works stemming from the original Aurora #313. The piece was conceived to be composed of three pieces while its reductive riverine archetypal shape also has some reference to music. The ¼” aluminum plate has been drilled to allow the rods limited movement. Before creating my Aurora series, I spent many hours watching videos of the highly charged electrons from solar winds interact with elements in the earth's atmosphere, thereby creating the aurora borealis. I sketched out my designs as I watched these videos which I have mostly adhered to while allowing for structural improvements.
