Cosmos: Starry, Starry Night is the sixth piece in my Aurora series and alludes not only to the aurora borealis' curtain of light, but also to the formation of a spiral galaxy. The name is a remembrance to my sister, "Twinkles", who was a star in my life, and an homage to Van Gogh’s painting and his swirls of energy in the sky. The plexiglas rods, which range in length from 11” to 62”, play with the idea of musical scales and chimes, and catch light when illuminated by the sun or artificial lighting. The work also references water, icicles, and even stalactites. I sketched out my designs while watching videos of the aurora borealis and after viewing different images of galaxies and a petroglyph.
